Turning vegan – starter kit

No matter where you are in the process of turning vegan, I wanted to include some reliable sources that you can use to reeducate yourself on the topic. These are sources I have used myself, both in my process of first turning vegetarian and then vegan, and I have included both academic and entertaining sources to appeal to both the ethical, environmental, and health aspect of veganism.

Do you have any sources to recommend? Give me a comment below!

Documentaries to watch

Cowspiracy –  The Sustainability Secret (2014) – Environmental perspective

Earthlings (2005) – Ethics perspective

Food, Inc (2008) – Food Industry

Speeches to watch

Gary Yourofsky – probably the most “radical” of everyone I am going to list, but this speech opened my eyes a lot in the beginning of my transition

James Wildman

Peter Singer: The Ethics of what we eat – poor quality, but I really appreciate the way Peter brings out a more academically philosophical perspective

Debates to watch

Google Debate (Health debate)

Should we go vegan? (Ethics debate)

Doctors’ debate (Health debate)

YouTubers to Follow

For Inspiration (my own picks)

Cook books

I think that sometimes we complicate things in cook books – I would just download Dr Greger’s app “Daily Dozen” (it’s free) and if you make sure to eat according to that app you’ll be fine. If you want to get more technical, use cronometer.com, a free site where you can put in everything you’ve eaten and track that you get all your micros and macros everyday. Super simple! Don’t make it more difficult than it is, simplicity is key.
